Heroic The Tomb of Sargeras All Loot at raiditem now! In the latest round of hotfixes, Writhing Essences drops as a currency, instead of a quest items. “Entering your Class Hall or Dalaran will convert your existing progress to the new currency.” It is a currency which you can find in the tab next to you character slot, so you don’t have to take the quest in Dalaran to start farming for a new legendary upgrade every time. Collecting 50 is required to complete Unsettled Power and acquire Stabilized Titan Essence to upgrade one legendary to ilvl 970, so with this change, you can earn 35 a week just from heroic dungeons. Tips:
Weekly mythic plus chest (20) - When completing a mythic plus (no matter difficulty), you will get a weekly chest in your Class Order Hall. This will contain 20 Writhing Essences. You will not get any Writhing Essences from chests inside m+ dungeons.
Emissary quest (4-7) - Each day, there will be a new Emissary quest for a certain zone in Broken Shore. This quest wants you to complete 4 quests (3 for Kirin Tor), for that emissary faction. Completing this, rewards a chest (cache) that contains between 5 to 7 Writhing Essences.
Daily Heroic Dungeon (5) - Opening the group finder will let you que up for a random heroic dungeon. The first time you complete that during a day, will reward you 5 Writhing Essences.
Tomb of Sargeras Raid bosses (2-5/boss) - Killing bosses in the new Raid: Tomb of Sargeras will reward 2 Writhing Essences per boss you kill. You will not get more if you kill sam boss in different difficulites.
Weekly PvP 2v2 (7) - Earning 1500 Honor when doing 2v2 arena will reward you with 7 Writhing Essences. This can be done only once per week.
Weekly PvP 3v3 (7) - Earning 1500 Honor when doing 3v3 arena will reward you with 7 Writhing Essences. This can be done only once per week.
Weekly PvP Rated Battleground (7) - Earning 1500 Honor when doing Rated Battleground will reward you with 7 Writhing Essences. This can be done only once per week.
The MAXIMUM amount of Writhing Essences, assuming you are lucky and get max Essences from every source (which is highly unlikely) is 150.
However, you will not get Writhing Essences from the following things: Raid Finder (ToS Raid Finder not confirmed yet), invasion reward, War supply caches, reputation caches,any previous raid bosses (only ToS), and mythic +chests (only weekly).
