Leveling 1 - 600 with Draenor recipes

First, visit your Inscription trainer at Dalaran, or one of main cities of old Azeroth. Just walk up to a guard in a city, you can ask them where the Engineering trainer is located. You can also find trainers at Ashran if you ask the guards.

If your character is below level 90, visit my Inscription Leveling Guide for players below level 90. This guide is for level 90-110 players.

You have to get a [Draenor Inscription] scroll to upgrade your maximum Inscription skill to 700. This scroll will also teach you a few basic recipes which you will use to level Inscription.

There are three ways to obtain this scroll:

Milling and Pigments

inv_inscription_pigment_cerulean[Cerulean Pigment] comes from milling herbs from Draenor. (Fireweed, Frostweed, Starflower, Nagrand Arrowbloom, Talador Orchid, Gorgrond Flytrap). You can find the ability_miling[Milling] ability in your spellbook's profession tab. (you can drag it to your action bar) You get 2 pigment from milling 5 herbs.

Type /m into your chat then hit enter to create a macro. Then just copy-paste these strings in your macro and bind it to a useful / easy button of your keyboard. Simple but useful macro in order to quickly mill your WoD herbs.

# showtooltip
/cast Milling
/use Talador Orchid
/use Gorgrond Flytrap
/use Frostweed
/use Fireweed
/use Nagrand Arrowbloom
/use Starflower

If you don't want to mill a flower (e.g. Frostweed since it's used in the dailies), just leave that out. This macro will start from the first herb and it will keep milling it until you don't have any left from that herb, then it will jump to the next one.

Leveling 1-600

  • 1 - 300
    300 x [Warbinder's Ink] - 600 Cerulean Pigment

You get 2 pigment from milling 5 herbs, so you need to mill 1500 herbs.

Leveling 1-800 with Legion recipes

This part requires level 100.

First, visit your Inscription trainer Professor Pallin at Dalaran. Just walk up to a guard in the city, you can ask them where the Inscription trainer is located.

After you learn Inscription, pick up the quest quest_startSign This from Professor Pallin.

The quest reward is inv_inscription_tradeskill01[Legion Scribe].

Unlocking recipes

Inscription recipes are unlocked by doing quests. You get these quests from your Inscription trainer Professor Pallin.

You should get to level 110 and finish every Inscription quest before you continue this guide.

There are 33 Inscription quest in total, they are pretty straight forward, so I will not write down the details of every quests. Some of the quests lead you to dungeons but you can finish every quest easily in a few hours if you start them at 110, otherwise you will have to wait because later quests have level requirement.

Recipe ranks

Most Legion recipes now have 3 ranks. Higher rank recipes allow you to craft an item for fewer materials, and they stay orange for a lot longer (grants guaranteed skill-ups). Therefore, you should only use rank 3 recipes when you can.

Rank 3 recipes comes from different sources like Vendors, World Quests, Reputation, dungeon drops, and even rated battleground wins.

If you hover over the little stars in your spellbook, you can see the source of the next rank for the selected recipe.

Unlocking World Quests

To unlock these quests, you must first complete quest_startUniting the Isles by reaching friendly reputation with every Legion faction. You can get this quest from Archmage Khadgar (requires level 110).

After you unlocked the quests, you have to level your Inscription to at least 100 to unlock the profession World quests.

600 - 800

There is really no good recipe to level from between 600 - 700. Everything is really expensive just for a few skill points, so you should make items that you can sell.

Your options are:

  • inv_inscription_tooltip_darkmooncard_mop[Darkmoon Card of the Legion]
  • One of the new Glyph recipes - If you check your profession UI and click on the unlearned tab, you can see the source for each Glyph if you hover over the little stars.
  • 784 - 800
The only recipe that you can use is the inv_misc_dmc_destructiondeck[Rank 3 - Prophecy Tarot].

Since the only time you can buy the rank 3 recipe is when the darkmoon faire is open, it means you can complete the quest mentioned below, so you will only have to level inscription up to 795, therefore you will have to make fewer Prophecy Tarot. Yellow and green recipes won't give skill point every time, so you will probably have to make around 20 to reach 795.

    20 x inv_misc_dmc_destructiondeck[Rank 3 - Prophecy Tarot] - 80 x 70_inscription_pigment_sallow[Sallow Pigment], 800 x 70_inscription_pigment_roseate[Roseate Pigment]

    Darkmoon Faire

You should check your Calendar in-game to see if the Darkmoon Faire is open, the event starts at 00:01 on the Sunday before the 1st Monday of each month.

You can gain +5 skill points by completing a single quest (use it at 795). Click here to read more about the quests.

I hope you liked this Inscription guide, congratulations on reaching 800!
