World of Warcraft Class Needs More Uniqueness in Next Expansions

However more cases have proven that no typical distinction is set up between those classes. The good news is that Blizzard has given us more details on the changes they'll be implementing to balance the classes and make them more unique, including new abilities and refining the talent system.

The plans are detailed in the latest Developer Watercooler blog, with the focus on emphasising "what makes each class unique and [providing] greater distinction among their various capabilities, especially when it comes to utility—tools that fall outside of core role functions like damage, healing, or mitigation."

To distinguish mages, warlocks, and priests more clearly from each other in the future, Blizzard will be adding new abilities, and will also bring back older ones that had previously been removed. Other abilities, including area-of-effect stuns, could also be removed from certain classes in order to make other classes more useful.

Similar changes are being made to the overall roles the classes play. Though hunters, mages, and rogues can all deal damage on a target, Blizzard wants them to feel distinct, with certain classes focusing on bursts of damage instead of a sustained volley. New quests will be introduced with advantages given to these different archetypes, as well.

"Our goal is that whatever powerful kind of utility a class brings, it's something that group will be happy to have added to their toolbox as they approach a challenge."

Meanwhile, the Talent System will remain largely the same, but will have a few tweaks so that choices in a row don't feel like "a complex math problem." Arttifacts won't escape a re-balance either, given that the base classes have to play well in their absence.
